Weekend Plans
The past few months I’ve been cozying up in the country. Wrapping up in extra blankets in front of the fire and watching the snow fall. Turning the page on a new year and winter hibernation is a perfect setting to start working on some new projects.
I only really started getting into garment making a few years ago as something to do on the weekends to help with my anxiety and stress but I was always on the road for work so I never really had time to really focus on it.
At the time I was living in New York and had the world at my finger tips, including the garment district. But most of the time I was winging it with YouTube videos and back episodes of Martha Stewart in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep.
Over time I was able to figure out how to work the sewing machine (mostly), operate standard (eye roll) patterns and make small adjustments (kind of). All in all I enjoyed my adventures in sewing, it was an escape and a break from hectic city living.
And then — 2020 — sigh. One gift that dumpster fire of year gave was opportunity to be still and at home. While the stress didn’t diminish, in fact it only increased, it was a time to watch YouTube videos and hone some skills I never thought I would possess.
And so here are almost to the end of January a full year later kicking off the 2021 with some new projects, leaning into what I’ve learned over lock down and enjoying the quiet of the winter.
At hand, I have an entire roll of paper from PDF Plotting with some winter basics I’m hoping to work through over the next few months. And I’m going to share some of that here with you.
I’m by no means an expert but I do excel at problem solving and let’s be honest that’s like 90% of sewing. So let’s go, let’s try some stuff and see if any of it is presentable enough to leave the house!
